Dehradun: To increase the electricity rates, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation will once again knock the door of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission. If the commission accepts its request, then electricity in the state can be 2.56% costlier. The Board of Directors has approved the appeal to UPCL. The Corporation believes that the Commission did not properly assess the expenses of the Corporation while determining the applicable electricity rates from April 1.

There were many such administrative expenses for the year 2018-19 and 2019-20 which have been left out. This is expected to cause a financial loss of 180 crores to the corporation. To compensate for this, the corporation has decided to appeal for a hike in rates. According to the corporation's managing director BCK Mishra, if the commission accepts the appeal, it will provide immense relief to the corporation. The board has approved to implement the revised rates of electricity from the Energy Corporation employees from July 1.

The bank credit limit of UPCL has been doubled for payments made in lieu of buying electricity. Till date, the letter of credit was 250 crores. Now it has been increased to 500 crores. The board has given permission to set up 10 GIS sub-stations (gas insulator switchgear) in the state. This will improve the quality of electricity. The state currently has only one GIS sub-station. This Bharadisain is in the assembly and for this, the Central Government will give a grant of 73.50 crores.
