Dehradun: Recently, Sonali Mankoti of Asan Mallakot in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand is the first woman officer of Kumaon, who joined the Indian Coast Guard Service as Assistant Commandant. Sonali, who had dreamed of joining the army since childhood after seeing her grandfather, father and uncle, joined the Indian Naval Academy in June this year. After six months of training from there, he received a commission on November 30 and joined the Indian Coast Guard Service as an Assistant Commandant. Prior to joining the Indian Navy, Sonali was working as a software developer in the Tata Consultancy Service Gurgaon. Suresh, a commandant working in the Coast Guard Service, told in a phone conversation that Sonali's family background is from the army. Sonali's grandfather Subedar Major (r) Pratap Singh Mankoti and father Subedar Major (r) Kundan Singh Mankoti have been in the Indian Army.
