Dehradun: The Uttarakhand State Assembly on Wednesday (November 30) unanimously passed a total of 15 bills, including the Women's Reservation, Freedom of Religion, and Appropriation Bill, without any commotion. After the governor's stamp on these important bills, they will be made laws. The passage of the bill for 30 percent reservation for women in government jobs has terminated a major hurdle. So far, women were getting the facility of reservation only through a government order, which has been challenged in the High Court.

According to the report, the Uttarakhand Assembly has also passed the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill 2022 to prevent forced or greedy conversions. The state government enacted a law against conversion in 2018, but now it has been made more stringent. Along with making it a cognizable offense, it has now been made non-bailable. Forced single conversion can now attract a jail term of two to seven years, while mass conversion can entice a jail term of 3 to 10 years. There is a provision of punishment ranging from 2 to 10 years and a fine of Rs 25,000 on the religious conversion of minor women, SC, ST, while there is a provision of punishment ranging from 3 to 10 years and a fine of Rs 50,000 on mass conversion.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has said in this regard, ''Uttarakhand is a land of spirituality, things like conversion are very dangerous here, so the government has brought a strict law to stop it. This law will be implemented in the entire state with full firmness.'' Similarly, mother power has been an important contributor to the formation of Uttarakhand state, the government had already decided that in this state with heterogeneous geographical conditions, respecting the mother power, they will be given the benefit of this horizontal reservation.
