Hyderabad: The state health department is preparing to create a Covid vaccine on January 16. In view of limited initial availability, the central government has given priority to the vaccine administration and is directly buying vaccine from pharma companies. In such a situation, the question is in everyone's mind when the vaccine will be available to thecommon people.

By mid-2021, the common people in the state are expected to get vaccine. Health workers, needy staff and persons over 50 years of age, are the first priority in the covid-related deaths. Guidelines are issued for the purpose so far, there are no rules for vaccination allocation for those under 50 years of age normally healthy.

Currently, the Covishield of Serum Institute of India (SII) is the only vaccine to be given to healthcare and frontline workers. However, in the coming months, there will be availability of many vaccines such as Bharat Biotech's Covacin, Russian Vaccine Sputnik and City-based Biological E Ltd and Jaikov-D of Zydus Cadila, manufactured by Dr Reddy's Laboratories of Hyderabad.

Senior officials here said that if Indian pharma companies make a large amount of vaccines, the central government could allow the vaccines to be sold to the general public through retail drug stores. About 13,900 health workers in Telangana receive vaccine on the first day of vaccination rollout.

Overall, THE MohFW plans to vaccinate 300 million Indians in the first phase of the Covid vaccination campaign. A total of 3 crore health workers, frontlines and needy employees will be vaccinated by March or April. Later, 27 crore people will be vaccinated within 50 years.
