New Delhi, November 23, 2023 - Marking the 14th edition of the Indo-US joint special forces exercise, 'Vajra Prahar 2023' has kicked off at Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya. Designed to foster the exchange of optimal strategies and experiences in joint mission planning and operational tactics, this exercise aims to elevate the prowess of soldiers.
The synergy among India's defense forces, evident through their participation in various military exercises globally, converges with the ongoing joint military exercise, Vajra Prahar 2023. Noteworthy for its collaboration between the Indian Army and the US Army's elite warriors, this exercise underscores the unique participation of special forces from both nations.
Vajra Prahar 2023, the 14th Edition of the India-US joint special forces exercise, unfolds across two phases. Commencing on November 21, the exercise initiates with combat conditioning and tactical-level special mission training exercises. The subsequent phase is slated for a 48-hour validation session, evaluating the practical application of skills acquired by special warriors from both countries.
Participants in Vajra Prahar 2023 : Representing the host nation, India, are the elite Para (Special Forces) of the Indian Army. Joining them from the United States is the 1st Special Forces Group (SFG) of the US Special Forces. Led by personnel from the Eastern Command, India's Para (Special Forces) emanates from the specialized battalions of the Parachute Regiment, showcasing expertise in diverse war skills like counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, hostage rescue, and direct action.
The US 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) (1st SFG) (A), operating under the United States Pacific Command, specializes in missions within the Indo-Pacific Command area of operations.
The exercise centers on enhancing coordination among soldiers from both countries, exchanging best practices, and refining joint mission strategies and operational tactics. Over the course of three weeks, soldiers will strategize and rehearse counter-terrorism, special operations, and airborne operations in simulated challenging terrains, including mountainous regions.
The training regimen includes waterborne and combat free-fall troop insertions, precision targeting at extended ranges, airborne troop sustainment, and combat air control involving fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
Scheduled to conclude on December 11, this 21-day military exercise aims to fortify defense capabilities and strengthen bilateral relations between India and the US.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized the strategic significance of Vajra Prahar 2023 in addressing shared security challenges amid the current global landscape. Since its inception in 2010, the exercise has significantly bolstered ties between the special forces of both nations while playing a pivotal role in advancing bilateral defense cooperation.
