Thiruvananthapuram: A series of incidents involving the hurling of stones at trains in Kerala has sparked safety concerns and directed attention towards this escalating problem. In the most recent occurrence, unidentified individuals vandalized a window on the moving Thiruvananthapuram-bound Vande Bharat Express, raising concerns about the safety of rail travel.

The event transpired during the late afternoon hours near Vatakara, impacting the C-8 coach of the train. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained as the window was shattered due to external impact. This incident follows similar ones that took place just days prior. Both the Mangaluru-Chennai Superfast Express and Netravati Express had their AC coach windows damaged by stone throwing.

Authorities reported that no one was harmed during the incident. The authorities stated, "The glass was shattered from an external force," the report reads.

The Vande Bharat Express, which was inaugurated in Kerala earlier in 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has repeatedly fallen victim to such attacks. These occurrences have prompted discussions on the need to enhance security measures for trains within the state.

Railway officials are expressing deep concern about the recurring nature of these events and are actively working to fortify security along susceptible sections. While no injuries have been documented thus far, these incidents underscore the urgency of taking prompt action to avert potential harm to passengers and crew members.

Similar Incident in Uttar Pradesh: In a prior incident in August, a group of unidentified individuals hurled stones at the Vande Bharat Express while it was en route from Gorakhpur to Lucknow in the Barabanki region of Uttar Pradesh.

This event took place near Safedabad Railway Station, prompting the Railway Police in Barabanki to initiate a comprehensive investigation aimed at apprehending the individuals accountable for the act. Authorities have pressed charges against the culprits for damaging government property and putting the lives of train passengers at risk.
