Varanasi: A court has taken a major decision on the Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi mosque case in Uttar Pradesh. The court has decided to appoint commissioners in the Kashi Vishwanath and Gyanvapi mosque complexes. The appointed commissioner will visit the temple-mosque complex on April 19 and videography will also be done during this period. The court also ordered the deployment of an adequate number of security forces during this period so that no untoward incident takes place.

The Varanasi district court passed the order while hearing a petition filed in September 2020. The petition has sought the court to hand over the premises to Hindus. The petitioners had sought an order from the court for inspection, radar studies and videography of the premises. The petitioner claims that the premises should be handed back to Hindu deities. Hearing this, the court ordered the appointment of a commissioner.

The Hindu side argues that the mosque has been built by demolishing the temple in Kashi, so far there are statues of the gods of Hindus on the walls and pillars of the mosque, so this complex should be handed over to the Hindus.
