Gaya: Veerjeet Kaur of Punjab won the gold medal in the Women's Junior National Championship In the 49 kg category. 19-year-old Virjeet Kaur has done this feat in this championship to be held in Gaya, Bihar. This is the first time that a player from Chandigarh has become a junior champion. Veerjeet's journey began in her village where she used to lift wheat sacks to help his father in farming.
Virjeet said after the victory, before coming to Chandigarh, I did not know anything about weightlifting. I used to play kho-kho and kabaddi only in my village. My father owned an eight-acre farm. When the crop had to be taken for sale, we used to carry wheat bags in trucks. This is how I started lifting weights. After winning the medal today, I called my father and he gave good news to the whole village.
Virjeet came to Chandigarh in 2016 where she attended DAV College. Talking to a newspaper, he said, I was practicing in the gym of the college when coach Karanbir Singh Buttar reached there to select the players for his coaching center. I used to practice watching online videos. Last year, when I won silver in Nagpur, my confidence in myself increased that I could win gold.
