Verizon introduces new technology to track WiFi activity at homes

New York City: Two user-friendly home technologies called Home Awareness and Device Identification have been launched by Verizon, the company announced today. Customers can get better access to their homes and a better sense of security with innovative home solutions for no extra money.

As more and more customers expand the capabilities of their home Wi-Fi networks, adding connected devices such as entertainment, power management and voice-activated smart speakers to name a few, they can now enjoy new functionality and You can get more value with added visibility in the home.

Home awareness

Home Awareness uses WiFi sensing technology to detect motion and report activity in your home via the My Fios app. Select Fios router models can now use patented technology from Verizon Ventures portfolio company Origin Wireless to identify interference to a home's existing WiFi signal and alert users to any unexpected motion.

Verizon and Origin Wireless will continue to develop new features based on this Wi-Fi sensing technology to improve the home experience.

According to Pavan Challa, director of product management at Verizon, "We are bringing a technology that will help customers better understand their home without the need for cameras or sensors.

To provide Verizon customers with even more value for their money, Challa said, "We are thrilled to partner with Origin Wireless on this new cutting-edge technology."

When using Home Awareness, customers can view reported activity in the My Fios app through a live dashboard and historical views.

Device ID

To provide customers with additional security with device identification, Verizon is also collaborating with SAM Seamless Networks, a separate Verizon Ventures portfolio company and top provider of cloud-native network security and intelligence services.

Customers can check their home network for new or previously unknown devices using Device ID. They can manage specific network characteristics of devices, such as customized naming conventions, with greater visibility into the connected devices on their home network, giving them better control over their home network and connected devices. On eligible Fios routers, the device ID is accessible to all customers.
