The death of celebrated Kannada writer Champa was mourned by Sandalwood celebrities. Chandrashekhar Patil, better known by his pen name Champa, died today at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was stricken by age-related illnesses.

Several stars wrote sympathy notes on social media sites after learning of the famed writer's death. "We have lost progressive intellectual & writer #Champa Sir today," actor Chetan Kumar Ahimsa said on Twitter. I've had the honour of sharing the stage with him on various times over the last 15 years. Kannada Rajyotsava, 'I Am Gauri,' Bengaluru's anti-Hindi movement, and others are among the activities. He will be remembered." Sumalatha Ambareesh, an actress-turned-politician, also sent a condolence message for the writer on her Facebook page.

In the early 1960s, Champa began his literary career as a poet. To name a few, he was responsible for plays such as Kodegalu, Gurutinavaru, Appa, and Tingara Buddanna. With two pals, he founded the journal Sankramana in 1964. He was an English professor at Karnatak University before moving into the entertainment sector.
