New Delhi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said that freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was rich in multifaceted personality. Apart from freedom fighter, he was also a writer, poet, historian, politician, philosopher and social reformer. Actually, Naidu was addressing the program after launching the book 'Savarkar: Echoes from a Forgotten Past'.

He said that it is not easy to write a biography of a brilliant and controversial person like Veer Savarkar. According to the news agency ANI, the Vice President praised writer VK Sampath for this and said that there are many aspects of Savarkar's personality that people do not know. Very few people would know that Savarkar waged a big movement against untouchability in the country. He said that Savarkar built the Petit Pavan temple in Ratnagiri district, in which all Hindus including Dalits were allowed to enter.

Naidu said that Veer Savarkar was the first person to imagine a casteless India. Calling for correct knowledge of reflective history towards Indian values, he said that it was Veer Savarkar who named the revolt of 1857 as the country's first freedom struggle. Savarkar had described 7 categories of society, the first of which was a rigid caste system. Naidu said that Savarkar had described it as worthy of being thrown into the dustbin of history.
