Vidya Balan was 13 years old when Satyajit Ray passed away in 1992. Vidya was deeply saddened by his death. She found herself unable to get out of bed for the next two days. Having never met the man, Vidya’s parents thought she had lost it, but such was her love for the legend and his work.  This incident makes it evident why Vidya loves films very well.

The actress had to make various efforts to get her first film. She got her first role after 40 screen tests and 17 make-up shoots. On the career front, Vidya Balan started her career with the film 'Parineeta'. Vidya was inspired by actresses Shabana Azmi and Madhuri Dixit from an early age. Vidya Balan showed her acting prowess at the age of 16 in Ekta Kapoor's television serial 'Hum Paanch'. Vidya made her acting debut in the film 'Parineeta' in 2005.
