Vidya Balan shown her attire as a 'not-so-classic' detective from Anu Menon's murder mystery shortly after releasing a teaser for her upcoming film Neeyat. The actor can be seen with bangs, wearing a green shirt, a maroon sweater and a brown overcoat. She stands close to a mirror that reflects the suspects, who are likely a family of four, and looks at them suspiciously.

There are a few features in Neeyat that give it the old-world charm of an Agatha Christie murder mystery. To begin, Vidya and the suspects' garments are layered and full of fir, which is an Agatha Christie characteristic. The surroundings, notably the wooden shelves with books in Vidya's background, also contribute to the film's Agatha Christie murder mystery mood.

Vidya will not be seen as a detective for the first time in Neeyat. Bobby Jasoos (2014), a film set in Hyderabad, in which she played a desi investigator, was a box office failure. However, we've seen Vidya investigate in a variety of roles, including Sujoy Ghosh's 2012 cult film Kahaani, Ribhu Dasgupta's Te3n (2014), and, most recently, Amit V Masurkar's 2021 forest thriller Sherni. Vidya Balan's long-awaited return to the big screen after four years will be marked by Neeyat. Her most recent theatrical release was Jagan Shakti's sci-fi ensemble Mission Mangal in 2019. Her most recent solo theatrical appearance was in Suresh Triveni's 2017 blockbuster Tumhari Sulu.

Anu Menon, who previously worked with Vidya on the biopic of mathematics great Shakuntala Devi, directs the murder mystery. Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami, Amrita Puri, Dipannita Sharma, Niki Walia, Shashank Arora, Prajakta Koli, and Danesh Razvi also appear in Neeyat. Anu, Priya Venkataraman, Advaita Kala, and Girvani Dhyani co-wrote it, and Kausar Munir wrote the dialogues. Vikram Malhotra's Abduntia Entertainment is in charge of production.
