Mumbai: Renowned actor Vidya Balan has taken legal action against an unidentified individual for creating a fake Instagram account under her name and soliciting money from unsuspecting individuals.
According to Mumbai police, an individual masquerading as Vidya Balan set up a replica Instagram profile, promising job opportunities to followers in exchange for monetary transactions.
Balan, known for her sizable online following and engaging content, including videos and reels, has encountered a significant setback due to this fraudulent activity. The impersonator's actions have not only tarnished Balan's reputation but also exploited innocent people for financial gain.
A police official disclosed that the perpetrator not only replicated Balan's Instagram account but also established a corresponding Gmail account to facilitate communication with individuals associated with the Bollywood industry. The scammer duped victims by guaranteeing employment opportunities in exchange for monetary payments.
Upon discovering the deceitful scheme, Vidya Balan promptly reported the matter to Mumbai Police. Subsequently, Khar Police initiated an investigation into the matter, registering an FIR under Section 66 (C) of the Information Technology Act.
This incident isn't the first time Balan has addressed such fraudulent activities. She previously alerted her followers via Instagram stories about unauthorized accounts operating under her name.
Meanwhile, in the realm of Vidya's professional endeavors, she is gearing up to reprise her role in the 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' franchise. Renowned for her portrayal of Manjulika in the 2007 psychological horror-comedy film, Balan's return to the franchise has generated anticipation among fans.
Actor Kartik Aaryan, who featured prominently in the second installment and will also play a leading role in the upcoming third part, expressed his excitement about Balan's involvement in the project. He welcomed her back to the world of 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa,' signaling an eagerly awaited reunion.
