Vietnam: Since January 1, 2022, the Vietnamese government has permitted the restoration of regular commercial flights between Vietnam and extremely safe international destinations from COVID-19. The destinations were China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, and the United States, according to the latest notice from the Vietnamese government office, Vietnam News Agency said on Saturday.

The decision is intended to restore international passenger transportation, accelerate economic and tourism recovery, and allow expatriate Vietnamese to return home for the forthcoming Lunar New Year, according to Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh.

While international flights must resume, efficient pandemic control must also be ensured, according to Minh, who urged relevant authorities and aviation companies to work actively to implement the authorised plan and submit proposals for changes based on the current situation.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam closed its border and halted all international flights in March of last year, allowing only Vietnamese repatriates, foreign experts, and highly-skilled personnel with certain quarantine criteria to enter.
