Mallya reached SC against extradition order, seeks permission to file plea

London: Fugitive liquor businessman Vijay Mallya has sought permission to file a petition in the British top court against the extradition order to India. Last month, the petition against the extradition of Vijay Mallya was rejected by the London High Court. Mallya has a case related to fraud and money laundering in India.

64-year-old Vijay Mallya had 14 days to seek permission to petition the British top court after an order from the London High Court. The High Court gave its decision on April 20 last month. Mallya had challenged the extradition order of the Lower Court Westminster Magistrate Court to the High Court. A spokesperson for the UK Crown Prosecution Service, representing the Indian investigative agencies in the extradition case, also confirmed receiving the petition on behalf of Vijay Mallya, saying that the petition had been filed. We have till 14 May to answer.

Earlier, the London High Court decision cleared the way for Vijay Mallya to be extradited to India last month. However, after the High Court's decision, Mallya said, 'I am definitely disappointed with this decision. I will continue the legal process further on the advice of my lawyer.
