In Tripura, a shocking case of moral policing has surfaced. A mob of villagers thrashed a man and a woman for supposedly being "in an illicit relationship". After being tied to a tree, the couple was beaten.
The incident occurred at Paulpara village, which is located in the Golaghati area of Tripura's Sepahijala district. The locals accused the pair of being in a "illicit relationship," so they took matters into their own hands and beat them up.
The man repeatedly claimed to be a distant relative of the woman in a video of the incident that went viral. After being informed of the incident, the police rushed to the scene and freed the couple. "We were made aware of the situation and a report was filed." "An investigation is underway," stated Arindam Nath, IGP (Law and Order).
Meanwhile, Barnali Goswami, the chairwoman of the Tripura Commission for Women, described the incident as "inhumane."
"Those who were involved in the crime should face severe punishment," said the organization. "We'll dispatch a team to investigate the incident," she stated.
