NEW DELHI: Vinncius Junior, Real Madrid's Brazilian forward, was racially abused during his team's defeat to Valencia in Spain's La Liga, said club manager Carlo Ancelotti. The match was consequently suspended for 9 minutes.
The incident occurred during a break in play in the second half of Sunday's game, when an agitated Vinicius Jr. pointed out a spectator in the audience who he thought was insulting him.
Vinncius Junior then received his first La Liga dismissal for his part in a large brawl with Valencia player Hugo Duro.
"Monkey, monkey" was being shouted at him from the stadium. He's just a young boy who enjoys playing football, and he wanted to keep going despite how difficult the scenario was. Aggression that didn't exist has been created by the VAR. He was dismissed for attempting to defend himself against an assault, Ancelotti revealed following the game.
Vinicius posted a tale on Instagram with the caption, "The prize that racists got was my expulsion! This is @LaLiga, not football." Later, he detailed his remarks on Twitter, writing: "It wasn't the first time, second time, or third time. In La Liga, racism is commonplace. The opposition supports it, the competition does as well, and the Federation agrees. So sorry again.
"Racists now own the championship that formerly belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano, and Messi. A stunning country that I adore and that welcomed me consented to project the stereotype of a racist society to the rest of the globe. I'm sorry for the Spanish people who disagree, but Brazil now views Spain as a racist nation.
"Unfortunately, I have no excuses for everything that occurs each week. I concur. But I am a strong person, and I will fight racism until the bitter end. even though it is far away. La Liga released a statement in response to the events that took place at the Estadio de Mestalla, stating that it would look into the matter and would take proper legal measures "if any hate crime is identified." Shortly after the game ended, Valencia also released a statement in which they vehemently denounced any kind of abuse, assault, or disqualification in football. "Even though this is a one-off incident, insults directed towards any opponent's player are inappropriate in football and go against Valencia CF's core beliefs and identity.
"The Club is looking into what transpired and will take the harshest action possible. In the same way, Valencia CF demands the greatest respect for our supporters and denounces any form of offence, according to the statement. Vincius Jr., who has endured racial abuse on numerous occasions this season, also got backing from Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva after the event. "I wanted to show my support for @vinijr, a young man who is unquestionably Real Madrid's best player and who consistently gets into trouble. Lula wrote, "I hope FIFA and other organisations do something to stop racism from sweeping over football.
