Mumbai: On Saturday, violence broke out in Thane when workers from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) attacked the convoy of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. The attackers threw bangles, tomatoes, and coconuts, causing damage to several vehicles in Thackeray's convoy. This incident occurred near Gadkari Rangayatan, where Thackeray was scheduled to address Shiv Sena (UBT) supporters. As Thackeray arrived at the venue, MNS workers entered the hall and protested against him, leading to a tense situation. The police intervened, restoring order and detaining several MNS protesters.

The attack is believed to be a retaliation for a previous incident in Beed, where Shiv Sena (UBT) workers had pelted MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s convoy with betel nuts and tomatoes. MNS leader Avinash Jadhav defended the action, stating, "Our MNS workers have given them a fitting response. If you throw betel nuts at us, we will respond with coconuts. Around 16 to 17 vehicles in Uddhav Thackeray's convoy were damaged. We have made our point and will continue to stand up for Raj Thackeray."

In related political news, Uddhav Thackeray, speaking in Thane—Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s stronghold—criticized Shinde for allegedly yielding to Delhi's influence. Thackeray accused the state government of attempting to buy votes by introducing the Mukhyamantri Ladki Behan Yojana shortly before the October elections. He urged women to utilize the scheme, which he claimed is funded by their own money, but emphasized that they should not compromise their dignity. Thackeray reiterated the Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's legacy of resisting Delhi's control.
