Bengaluru: With the change of power in Karnataka, the picture of the Assembly is also going to change. After B.S. Yeddyurappa became the CM, Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar resigned from his post. Now Vishwaswara Hegde Kagari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to become the new Assembly Speaker. He is set to become a speaker if he has been nominated and no one has filed a nomination against him.
Vishwaswara Kageri has served as MLA for six times and also served as Education Minister. The 58-year-old Vishwaswara Kagari, who started his career with ABVP, was elected MLA from Ankola for the first time in 1994. He won the Assembly elections from this seat till 2008. After that, when the delimitation took place, he went to Sirsi and from there also elected MLAs in 2008, 2013 and 2018. This time, he has been given a major responsibility by the party.
The BJP has a majority in the Assembly and has the support of 105 MLAs. That is why Congress has not fielded any candidate for the speaker's post on its behalf. The role of the Speaker of the Assembly in Karnataka has been very important in the past. Former Speaker Ramesh Kumar disqualified 17 rebel MLAs while the MLAs resigned before him.
