German motor vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen has revealed that production of its ID.5 and ID.5 GTX electric vehicles has begun, and that its Zwickau factory has been designated as an EV manufacturing site. This plant, located in western Saxony, is the first of its kind to switch total manufacturing from combustion engines to electric cars on a big scale.
Last year, we had a total of 5 EV. Its design is based on the Volkswagen ID.4 and is available in three models: Pro, Pro Performance, and GTX. These variations will come with three distinct powertrains, as the carmaker previously said. The ID.5 is built on MEB, the company's exclusive electric vehicle architecture. Electric motors are mounted at the back of the car in the Pro and Pro Performance models. The former has a power output of 171 hp, while the later has a power output of 201 hp. The ID.5 Pro can sprint from 0 to 96 km/h in 10.4 seconds, while the Pro Performance can reach 96 km/h in 8.4 seconds from a standstill. ID.5 Pro, the business has earlier said.
Volkswagen has announced that models such as the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5, as well as the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron, will be produced in Zwickau. According to the carmaker, this factory is now the most efficient electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Europe, with a production capacity of 3,00,000 automobiles. Member of the Volkswagen Brand's Board of Management in charge of Production Volkswagen's Accelerate strategy, according to Christian Vollmer, will continue to accelerate the speed of electric mobility in 2022.
"With six ramp-ups from three brands in just 26 months, the Zwickau production unit has prepared the road for the Group to achieve this." "We'll be able to continue to electrify our production network swiftly and effectively with the knowledge and experience we've learned," Vollmer stated.
