New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation (MCD) in the national capital will elect six members for the mayor, deputy mayor, and standing committee on Friday (January 6). Polling will begin at 11 am. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP have completed preparations for this. Meanwhile, Congress has made a big announcement saying that the party will not participate in this election. Announcing this on Thursday, Delhi Congress Committee chief Anil Chaudhary said that Congress councilors will not be a part of the standing committee elections, including a mayor and deputy mayor, for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to be held at the Civic Centre.
Anil Chaudhary said that the people of Delhi have supported the Congress against the BJP and the AAP. Respecting this, we will stay away from the election of the mayor, deputy mayor, and standing committee. If the people of Delhi gave Kejriwal a majority, then Kejriwal should make his mayor and serve the people of Delhi. With opposition from the BJP and AAP, the Congress party has made Nazia Danish the leader of the Congress party in the MCD, Sheetal the deputy leader, and Shagufta Chaudhary the chief whip of the Congress party in the corporation.
The election of the first woman mayor and deputy mayor for the integrated municipal corporation will be held at the Civic Center, the headquarters of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. There will be three types of ballot boxes. There will be a white ballot box for the mayor, a green ballot box for the deputy mayor, and a pink ballot box for the six members of the standing committee in the House. Officials say that ballot boxes of different colors have been made for different posts so that no voters get confused. All ballot boxes will be under CCTV surveillance.
