New Delhi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu urged the youth on Tuesday to learn from India's liberation warriors the spirit of sacrifice and unflinching dedication.

Vice President expressed his thoughts on Facebook while visiting the birthplace of independence warrior Alluri Sitarama Raju in Andhra Pradesh. "We must commemorate the endless sacrifices of our independence heroes and take inspiration from their patriotic fervour," Naidu said as the country celebrates Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

"It's vital to remember that these heroes fought not just for an abstract geographical entity, but for millions of people who were oppressed and unjustly ruled by the British," he said. "Our youth must learn from our liberation fighters the spirit of sacrifice and unflinching dedication. They must instil honesty, devotion, and selfless service as basic values. They must never, under any circumstances, compromise on them "The Vice President said.

"I felt elated as it marked a very special day in my life," Naidu said as he left the village of Pandragi near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, after interacting with the great revolutionary's family members. "I urge everyone, particularly the youth, to visit the birthplaces of such great national heroes and seek inspiration by reliving their stories," he said.

The legendary Alluri Sitarama Raju, a freedom fighter and tribal leader known as 'Manyam Veerudu' (hero of the jungle), mobilised the people, mainly tribals and forest dwellers, to resist the British, said the Vice President.   "Today I had the extraordinary fortune of seeing the birthplace of this remarkable hero at Pandrangi. The awe-inspiring patriotic spirit that Shri Alluri left for Telugu people to follow seems to be resonating across the village for decades and generations to come," He concluded.
