Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu made a pitch on Saturday for honouring the country's unsung heroes, saying that art mediums like cinema and music should be utilised to highlight their sacrifices.
He lamented the fact that while many people are familiar with Robert Clive, few are familiar with independence warriors and historical heroes such as Maharana Pratap, Chatrapati Shivaji, Komaram Bheem, and Alluri Sitaram Raju.
Many unsung heroes made sacrifices, but their stories are generally unknown to the general public since they were neglected in history books, according to Naidu.
"It is our responsibility to acknowledge the unrecognised." This is a feature that our movies, other art forms, music, and literature should pay enough attention to (highlighting the deeds of unsung heroes). It's critical to resurrect our magnificent cultural history, as well as the sacrifices made (by unsung heroes)," he remarked.
The vice president also stressed the importance of the mother language at all levels, including government functions, education, and the courts, while speaking at the Sangeet Natak Academy and Lalit Kala Academy awards ceremony today.
"We were told about the history of Robert Clive but not about Rana Pratap, Shivaji, Alluri Sitaram Raju, Komaram Bheem, and other unsung heroes and their accomplishments," Naidu said. It is past time for us to fix this error and restore the respect of our beautiful past."Unfortunately, our history has not given these unsung heroes proper and enough attention due to the colonial attitude in our textbooks. It's past time to acknowledge them, and I'm glad the new education strategy is focusing on that," he said.
