Gujrat: The two-day National Judicial Conference on Mediation and Information Technology, held near the Statue of Unity in Kevadia in Gujarat's Narmada district, was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind. Other dignitaries who attended the opening occasion were Chief Justice of India N V Ramana.

President Ram Nath Kovind said the notion of mediation in the judiciary has yet to gain universal support due to certain bottlenecks, but that all parties should have a constructive approach toward the matter in order to reach the intended result. He also stated that improving access to justice should be the primary goal of converting the justice delivery system to information and communication technology (ICT).

"In mediation, everyone is a winner," he said. Having said that, it's fair to say that the concept has yet to gain popular acceptance in the United States. In certain regions, there aren't enough trained mediators. Many mediation centres' infrastructural facilities are in desperate need of upgrading," Kovind stated. He said that these "bottlenecks" must be addressed as soon as possible in order for the general public to profit from this powerful tool. "Moreover, if we want to achieve desired results, all parties should have a good attitude toward mediation," he added, emphasising the necessity of training in this regard.

Training can be delivered at many levels, ranging from induction courses to refresher courses for mid-career professionals, he said.
