China: China's Wang Jiannan on Saturday won the men's long jump with his sixth and final attempt at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Wang, a bronze medalist at the Beijing Worlds, won the gold medal in his final attempt, defeating defending Olympic champion Miltiadis Tantoglu of Greece by winning the gold in a distance of 8.36 metres.

Simon Ehmer of Switzerland won the bronze medal with a time of 8.16m.

The US hosts took the podium in the men's 100m final.

China's top runner Su Bingtian failed to reach the final after finishing eighth in her semi-final group.

In women's shotput, US national champion Chase Alley won the gold in her first attempt of 20.49m, while Olympic champion and two-time world champion Gong Lijiao of China settled for silver with a throw of 20.39. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands finished third in a national record time of 19.77 seconds.

Earlier, Letesenbet Gidi of Ethiopia won the women's 10,000m final in 30:09.94 s. Kenya's Helen Obiri took the silver with a time of 30:10.02 and Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi of Kenya took the bronze with a time of 30:10.07.

Poland's Pawel Fajdek won his fifth world title in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 81.98m.

In his third attempt, Fadzek overtook compatriot and defending Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki by 95 cm. Norway's Evind Henriksen finished third with 80.87m.
