Here it is to be noted that countering Mamata's argument of taking help from the RSS Rahul said that it was the Congress which raised the Rafale issue and raised the slogan 'Chowkidar Chor Hai'. He further said that the party has never compromised with the BJP ever anywhere in any state and asked if Mamata had ever compromised with the BJP anywhere. A few days ago, she dismissed Rahul’s allegation against her government saying “he is just a kid". At a rally in WB Rahul had said that under Mamata's tenure the state witnessed zero development. In her campaigns, both the leaders have traded barbs and though they have shared the stage on multiple occasions they haven’t declared an alliance to challenge the BJP on the national as well as state level.

Siliguri Police Commissioner BL Meena later said that the permission was denied on “specific grounds” and blamed the party of not coming up with an alternative venue. Mamata had recently said that TMC would play a crucial role in the formation of the new government and political pundits have said that she is planning for a national role. Mamata’s political career started with the Congress which she left in 1997 to form TMC. Two years later she joined the NDA and became a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government handling plum portfolios like railways and the coal and mines.
