New Delhi: Most parts of north India, including the national capital Delhi and NCR, are receiving monsoon-like rainfall in the month of January. Intermittent rain continued for the second consecutive day in Delhi and adjoining areas today (Sunday). According to IMD, similar weather is likely to prevail in some parts of UP, Punjab and Haryana for the time being.
According to IMD, north Delhi, south-east Delhi, New Delhi, Lodi Road, East-Delhi, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Gohana, Gannaur, Sonepat and adjoining areas will receive light rain in a few hours, ranging from drizzle to moderate intensity rainfall. IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh by January 10.
Delhi recorded the highest rainfall in a day in January after 22 years on Saturday. According to the India Meteorological Department, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded 41 mm rainfall till 8.30 am on Saturday, the highest in the last 22 years in the month of January. The weather station at Palam has set up 47 in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Saturday. 6 mm rainfall was recorded. Earlier, Delhi recorded the highest rainfall of 46 mm in 1999 in a day in the month of January. At the same time, Delhi's air quality has improved for nearly two months. Air Quality Index (AQI) has been recorded in the satisfactory category. State that AQI is considered to be 'good' between zero and 50, 'satisfactory' between 51 and 100, 'medium' between 101 and 200, 'bad' between 201 and 300, 'very bad' between 301 and 400 and 'serious' category between 401 and 500.
