No relief from heat, monsoon getting weaker

The pace of the monsoon has weakened near the Arabian Sea and thus there has been a delay of six days in reaching different parts of the country. With the weakening of the monsoon, there has been a 38 per cent reduction in rainfall this season across the country. In fact, a meteorological official recently said, "The monsoon pattern in Central India seems to have changed this time. The presence of an anti-cyclone is not a good sign of monsoon. Its speed near the Arabian Sea has weakened. It is being said that due to dry and hot westerly winds blowing from Pakistan, the 'heat wave' is likely to continue till the coming Thursday in some parts of northwest India.''

According to the Met department, Banda and Fatehgarh in Uttar Pradesh were the hottest places in the country with a maximum temperature of 46 respectively. recorded at 8°C and 46.4°C. The mercury in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar touched a maximum of 46.3 degrees, while Khajuraho and Nagaon in Madhya Pradesh recorded a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that heat wave conditions are expected in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Delhi by the coming Thursday. The MET office has predicted heat wave conditions in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha and north Jharkhand for the next two days. With this, the southwest monsoon had reached Kerala on May 29 and it is expected to pick up momentum and move forward from today i.e. Tuesday.

There was no relief from the scorching heat in the national capital Delhi and on Monday, the mercury remained above 45 degrees Celsius in many areas. Weather experts predict that there may be some relief from this summer over the weekend due to the fresh western disturbance. With this, according to the Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi, the maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 44.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in the capital may fall to 40-41 degrees Celsius by Friday.
