Kolkata: A panchayat in Malda district of West Bengal has forcibly married a young man and woman as a punishment for love. The youth has committed suicide after a forced marriage by the panchayat. The panchayat was set up by some local leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), whose names are coming up in the case.

In fact, the 20-year-old Manik Mandal was captured by some colourful leaders of the village on Sunday with an Inter student in a garden. The two were then taken to the panchayat. It was decided in the Panchayat that the two should be married. The panchayat issued the marriage decree as punishment. It was only on Sunday that the two were taken to a temple in the village and forcibly tied to the marriage formula. After marriage, the panchayat took the two and left the boy's house. The boy's mother at home refused to accept the marriage and started protesting against the incident. He said that he does not approve of this relationship with. Manik's father also went out of work at that time.

The villagers refused to listen to anything they said, forcing both of them to leave inside the house. He had an argument with Manik's mother over the same things. The youth committed suicide after tension soared. The incident took place in Mankut Dam area of Manikchak in Malda. TMC in this village occupies the Panchayat. The panchayat was called by the members of the TMC. Police have started investigating the case. No one has been arrested in the entire episode.
