Kolkata: On Thursday, the Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee will take to the streets to demonstrate their protest against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issued in Assam. A protest march will be held from Bachhi Mor on BT Road in North Kolkata to Shyambazar Five Point. The procession will be led by CM Mamta Banerjee, which will include senior party leaders, ministers and thousands of activists and supporters.
Regarding the procession, the Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the state's Urban Development Minister, Firhad Hakim, has said that the NRC will not be allowed to be implemented in the state of Bengal, the proof of which will be found only in Thursday's procession. It is possible that due to this traffic jam on the busy BT Road in North Kolkata, people will face problems. Significantly, the Trinamool had already announced a protest march against the policies of the Center on September 12.
Earlier, on 7 and 8 September, protests were organized in the districts on behalf of TMC against NRC. Mamta Banerjee has already reacted sharply to the exclusion of about 19 lakh people from the NRC in Assam. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a tender was issued by the State Public Works Department for barricading the procession route. This tender has been allotted a few hours before the procession. Under this, CM Banerjee has said that the barricading work on both sides of the path will be completed by Thursday morning.
