Kolkata: Seeing the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, CM Mamata Banerjee has started throwing her cards. Upset over BJP's rise in the state, Mamata plans to make Bengal self-respect an issue. Therefore, she has called for the announcement of the name of Indian-origin Abhijit Banerjee for the Nobel Prize in Economics and the unopposed nomination of former cricketer Sourav Ganguly for the post of Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Let us tell you that in the field of economics, Indian-origin Abhijit Banerjee, his wife Esther Dufflow and Michael Kramer have been announced to be awarded the Nobel Prize for their research on 'experiments to end global poverty'. Abhijit Banerjee is currently a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He did his BSc from Kolkata University in 1981, MA from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1983, then PhD from Harvard University. He and his wife Dufflo Abdul Latif are also co-founders of the Jamil Poverty Action Lab. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will be the new chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday. He was the only candidate to apply for the post.
