The sixth phase of elections has begun in West Bengal amidst increasing cases of corona infection in several states of the country. Polling will be held for 43 constituencies in this phase. A total of 306 candidates are in the fray in this phase and more than one crore voters will exercise their franchise. PM Narendra Modi tweeted urging people to vote. "Today is the sixth phase of West Bengal elections. Today, voters will vote to elect a new assembly. ?

 

 

14,480 polling stations have been set up in 43 assembly segments of four cities. The main contest in this phase is said to be between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Bjp National Vice President Mukul Roy, Trinamool Ministers Jyotipriya Mallick and Chandrima Bhattacharya and CPI(M) leader Tanmay Bhattacharya are among the prominent candidates for the phase. Apart from this, film director Raj Chakraborty and actress Kausani Mukherjee are also in the fray as Trinamool candidates.

According to sources, security arrangements have been made in view of the violence in the past. However, 24 hours before the start of the elections, a Trinamool worker was killed in a bomb blast after a Congress worker was bombed in Murshidabad. The case has taken place at Hariharpara in Murshidabad. The deceased has been identified as Badal Ghosh. It may be noted that assembly elections are scheduled to be held in a total of 8 phases in Bengal. Out of this, 5 phases of voting have been held. Polling for the remaining 3 phases is yet to be held. Polling for the same is scheduled to be held on April 22, April 26 and April 29. Then the results will come on 2nd May.
