New Delhi: The Modi government at the Center has not included the tableau (Jhanki) of West Bengal in the Republic Day Parade to be held on 26 January. Giving information in this regard, the Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that the proposal of the tableau of the Government of Bengal was sent to the Expert Committee 2 times. This was rejected after a detailed discussion in the second meeting. Earlier also in the year 2018, the tableau of Bengal was not included in the parade.

A total of 56 tableaus were proposed for the parade ceremony this year, out of which 28 have been contested. President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro will be the chief guest of the ceremony. According to the ministry, the tableau of Bengal was first selected according to the parade process. A total of 56 tableaus proposals were received in the Republic Day Parade to be held in 2020. 32 proposals were from the Ministries or Departments of the States and Union Territories.

According to the ministry, 5 rounds of meetings were held in the expert committee for the election of these tableaus. Subsequently, out of these, 22 proposals from 16 states and union territories and 6 tableaus of Ministries and Departments of Ministries were selected for the parade. Proposals are invited from the States, Union Territories, Central Ministries and Departments for the Republic Day Parade. The tableaus are selected by a special committee consisting of people associated with art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture and choreography. The committee considers the proposals and sends its recommendation to the Ministry of Defense. On given the ban of time, a limited number of tableaus are selected.
