Kolkata: Incidents of crime in West Bengal do not seem to be decreasing. Day by day, there are reports of crime from different parts of the state. The latest case has come to light from the Lakuria area under Mangalkot police station in East Burdwan district of West Bengal. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) President has been shot dead here.

Since then, there has been an atmosphere of Dussehra in the area. Police have tightened security at the spot in view of the seriousness of the case. According to media reports, Lakuria area TMC president Asim Das was returning home by bike from Kashem Bazar late on Monday evening. Meanwhile, some of the attackers stopped his bike and fired indiscriminately at him. After which Asim Das was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Where doctors declared him brought dead. Several senior leaders of the TMC including Mangalkot MLA Apurva Chaudhary rushed to the spot after receiving information. MLA Apurva Chaudhary alleged that Das was killed by BJP-backed miscreants. The incident has created tension in the area. A large number of police forces have been deployed in the Mangalkot police station area.
