New Delhi: West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy a few days ago accused Indian cricketers that people in the IPL have made racist comments on him. He accused his fellow players of calling him Kalu and he called them racist. But now he has reversed his words and he has said that now I understand that everybody used to call me Kalu affectionately.
Sammy, the captain of the two-time T20 World Cup-winning team, had reacted very strongly in the past to his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammates saying the word 'Kalu' to him and asked them to apologize. Sammy tweeted that "I am very happy to say that a really interesting thing happened to a partner of mine. We are focusing on ways to educate people instead of focusing on negative things. My brother has assured me that he said it with love and I trust him."
He later told ESPN Cricinfo that as far as the apology was concerned, I later understood that I should not have said that either. I or my teammates did not do this intentionally, but now I realized that it can be unhappy for a teammate. However, Sammy did not name the player who called him 'Kalu'.
