On March 25, a 200-foot-tall asteroid that was recently discovered will pass extremely close to Earth. According to Earth Sky, a space rock known as 2023 DZ2 will safely pass by Earth at a distance that is less than half that of the moon. It will get close to Earth around 2:51 PM CT (1:21 AM IST). Astronomers at the La Palma Observatory in Spain's Canary Islands made the asteroid's initial discovery in late February. NEO 2023 DZ2 is a space object that is close to Earth. Every 3.16 years, it completes one solar orbit.Because it crosses Earth's orbit, the asteroid is categorized as an Apollo-class asteroid. Its estimated diameter ranges from 44 to 99 meters.

"On Saturday, the Earth will safely fly past a recently discovered asteroid dubbed 2023 DZ2 at a distance of more than 100,000 miles. According to a tweet from NASA Asteroid Watch, while close approaches are regular, an asteroid of this size (140-310 feet) makes a close approach only about once every ten years, presenting a rare chance for scientists.

What distinguishes this?

Although close encounters with asteroids are common, only one by one of this size (140-310 ft) occurs roughly once every ten years, according to NASA Asteroid Watch in another tweet. The asteroid could potentially do a lot of harm to Earth if it collided with it. EarthSky estimates that it will most likely make a clean pass while traveling at 28,044 km/h.

How to view the asteroid in real time?

The asteroid may be visible in the Northern Hemisphere skies as it flies by Earth. From the Northern Hemisphere, six-inch or larger telescopes are recommended for viewing the asteroid 2023 DZ2. In the sky above the southeastern horizon, east of the constellations Orion, Canis Major, and Canis Minor, it should appear as a "slow-moving star" passing in front of the fixed stars, according to Per Earth Sky. The asteroid will also be streamed live at 6:30 pm CT on March 25 (5 am IST) by the Virtual Telescope Project.
