A new tax may soon be implemented in Delhi. The purpose of this new tax is to reduce the increasing traffic in Delhi. Let us know what this tax is, how it will be implemented and which vehicles will be affected by it.

What is Congestion Tax?

The Delhi government is planning to impose Congestion Tax to control the increasing number of vehicles. The purpose of this tax is to reduce traffic and prevent jams on Delhi roads. According to reports, this tax will not be applicable on vehicles registered in Delhi. But it will be imposed on vehicles coming from other states, especially those vehicles that enter Delhi during peak hours.

From which vehicles will tax be collected?

This tax will be levied only on vehicles outside Delhi. It will be implemented especially on petrol and diesel driven cars and commercial vehicles. However, vehicles registered within Delhi will remain untouched by this. Along with this, two wheelers and electric vehicles will also be exempted from this tax.

Tax times and places

The Delhi government has fixed some specific time and places for collecting the tax. This tax will be collected during peak traffic hours, between 8 am to 10 am and 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. It will be implemented at 13 major entry points entering Delhi. This means that if any vehicle enters Delhi during this time, it will have to pay Congestion Tax.

Recovery can be done through Fastag

According to reports, to facilitate the collection of Congestion Tax, the government is planning to collect tax through Fastag. This will eliminate the need to stop vehicles at entry points and avoid traffic jams. With the help of Fastag, tax will be deducted without any interruption, which will facilitate smooth traffic movement.

Traffic jam and pollution problem

Traffic jam is a big problem in Delhi, especially during peak hours. Even though the government has made arrangements like many bridges, elevated roads and U-turns to control the traffic, traffic jams still occur due to the large number of vehicles. This not only wastes people's time, but also leads to increasing pollution, which directly affects people's health.
