Lucknow: Pollingis underway for Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha by-elections in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has tried to put the administration and the police in the dock at both the places. In Rampur, SP MLA Abdullah Azam even went so far as to say that there is no use in such an election. He alleged that the rule of showing two IDs for casting votes has been implemented in Rampur. However, the administration did not confirm his allegations.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, SP National Executive member Arvind Singh has alleged that all booth agents of his party have been expelled from all polling booths in Gopalpur, Sagadi, Mubarakpur, Azamgarh Sadar and Mehnagar assembly segments of Azamgarh with the intention of creating disturbances at the behest of the BJP under a conspiracy. He expressed apprehension that this could lead to large scale rigging in the elections. They have demanded immediate action from the Election Commission in the matter.
A complaint is being lodged with the Election Commission against the sp's action against the workers over Rampur. A complaint said, SP workers were assaulted in Tanda and Daryal areas of War assembly constituency to influence polling. The SP has levelled serious allegations against the police. Azam Khan also took a dig at the government over the police action against some SP workers yesterday. Azam, while talking to the media, said, "Who is a bigger criminal than us? Do whatever you want with us. Hen, goat, buffalo, book and furniture are accused of so our city has also been persuaded to do whatever it wants. We have to endure and stay. '
