New York [USA], Mar. 21 (NT): Amid growing rumours over the gigantic platform of social media Facebook's involvement in the alleged mistreatment with users' private data, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton took his official Twitter handle asking everyone to delete Facebook.

Acton, whose much-acclaimed product was purchased by Facebook in 2014 for a whopping USD 16 billion, took to the microblogging platform Twitter and said "It is time. #deletefacebook”.

His message came after the concerns were flagged on data privacy in the wake of eye-opener-exposure about Cambridge Analytica's alleged misuse of user data.

The increase of false news and the revelation recently that scores of Facebook user profiles had been harvested by Cambridge Analytica, a voter-profiling company that worked on the United States President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign, are major issues which have emerged widely.

This has resulted in a noteworthy fall in the company's shares over the last five days.

The giant of social media network's shares fell for a second day on Tuesday, closing down 2.5 percent, as investors concerned that its dealings with the firm might smash up its reputation, put off advertisers and invite restrictive regulation.  Till now The company has lost $60 billion (£43bn) of its stock market value.

Meanwhile, Cambridge Analytica on Tuesday suspended its chief executive, Alexander Nix, amid an uproar over the access as it gained to private information on more than 50 million Facebook users.
