New Delhi: WhatsApp has filed a case against the Government of India in the Delhi High Court seeking to withhold the new IT rules that come into force from today. WhatsApp vs. Government of India case has been filed on Tuesday, May 25. The Messenger app said the new rules will affect users' privacy.

In fact, on February 25, 2021, the Central Government directed the Ministry of Electronics and IT, India to appoint compliance officers, nodal officers, etc., within 3 months to regulate digital content. All of them must have a jurisdiction in India. Under the order given by the government, companies will have to appoint compliance officers and their name and contact address must be from India.

A statement issued by WhatsApp said the government's new guidelines talk about tracing chats and in a way as if our users' fingerprint information is being sought. This will break end-to-end encryption and fundamentally undermine people's right to privacy. WhatsApp says that we are in line with civil society on this issue, which talks about the privacy of people using WhatsApp around the world.
