Social media giant WhatsApp recently drew widespread flak for announcing it was revising its privacy policy, which indicated a deeper integration with Facebook over data sharing, thus, giving way to people opting for WhatsApp's alternatives. Now, WhatsApp on Saturday announced no user on the platform would have their account suspended or deleted on February 8 and that it was pushing back the date of data-sharing change to May 15 .

This development came after users globally raised concerns about privacy and flocked to other alternatives such as Telegram and Signal.  The company has postponed its February 8 deadline for accepting an update to its conditions, adding that it would use the brief hiatus to clear up misinformation around privacy.

In a blog post, the company wrote, "We’re now moving back the date on which people will be asked to review and accept the terms. No one will have their account suspended or deleted on February 8. We're also going to do a lot more to clear up the misinformation around how privacy and security works on WhatsApp.  We’ll then go to people gradually to review the policy at their own pace before new business options are available on May 15."
