The famous messaging app WhatsApp made a record on New Year's Eve. Generally, people used to chat or forward messages to their friends and relative on the occasion of New Year but this year, the users of WhatsApp over the world made more than 1.4 billion voice and video calls on New Year's Eve. According to Facebook, it is recorded as the maximum ever calls in a single day on WhatsApp.

Facebook said on Friday, "Due to the corona pandemic, meeting with friends and family become tough, though WhatsApp calling increased over 50% on New Year's Eve 2020 as compared to last year." Video calling became the most demanded feature in the year 2020 as people turned towards the technology to stay in touch with their loved ones.

Technical Programme Manager at Facebook, Caitlin Banford said,  "Before the Covid-19 pandemic, New Year's Eve generated Facebook's biggest spikes in messaging, photo uploads and social sharing at midnight across the world. However, in March 2020, the early days of the pandemic produced traffic spikes that would dwarf New Year's Eve several times over -- and it lasted for months."

According to IANS, the company said, "There were more than 55 million live broadcasts across Facebook and Instagram globally on New Year's Eve."
