No purchasing of wheat starts in Bihar, middlemen are looting farmers

Patna: The month of June has been started, but so far, procurement of wheat from farmers in seven districts of Bihar has not been made (government procurement). Due to no wheat procurement, middlemen are procuring wheat in distress. Wheat is to be bought in the state by June 30. By the way, where the purchase has occurred or is taking place, there is also extremely slow speed.

According to data from the Department of Cooperation, Bihar has so far procured about 2700 tonnes of wheat, while the target has been kept at two lakh tonnes. The farmer of Amba in Aurangabad District, Shyam G. Pandey, says that this year wheat cultivation was very enthusiastic and there were many dreams in the trust of this cultivation. But, as of now, the procurement is not going to start, for the next cultivation, for the repayment of the Mahajans and to meet their other requirements, the distress are selling wheat. The same is the most recent of other farmers.

On the condition of anonymity, a co-operative department official said that wheat procurement in seven of the 38 districts of Bihar, namely Vaishali, Saran, Sheikhupura, Katihar, Madhubani, Aurangabad and Jamui, has not commenced till date. He said that the procurement of wheat was scheduled to commence from April this year but the Lok Sabha elections could not be started due to which procurement has been started for the last fortnight.
