The cases of honor killings are increasing rapidly in Pakistan. In a recent case, a father was so annoyed with his daughter's love story against his will that he shot and killed the daughter in the court itself. The case is of Karachi city. The criminal father who carried out the incident has been arrested along with the weapon.
According to the police, the woman was a resident of Waziristan in the tribal area of ​​Karachi. She had recently married a doctor in her neighborhood against her father's wishes. On Monday afternoon, the woman reached the court to record her statement. In the Karachi city court, she accepted that she had married according to her own will. Superintendent of Police Shabbir Sethar said that at the time of the statement of the woman, her father was also present in the court. As soon as the woman gave her statement in court, her angry father took out a weapon in front of everyone and fired at her. A policeman was also injured in the incident, whose condition is now out of danger.
After committing the crime, the police arrested the culprit. Thereafter, the weapon used to commit the offense was also seized. This is not the first case when a girl has been victimized in Pakistan for honor killing. Such incidents keep happening in different areas of Pakistan. In most cases, the perpetrator is the victim's father, husband, brother, or relative. The Superintendent of Police told that when the woman rebelled against her father and married of her choice, her father became very angry with her. Similarly, every year hundreds of women become victims of honor killing in different parts of Pakistan. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has reported an average of 650 honor killings every year in the past decade. But this figure could be more as most of these cases are not reported in Pakistan.
