TEXAS: A big controversy has hit the Alpine Group, a well-known lobbying firm, after one of its senior employees, Courtney Johnson, was fired. This happened after a video went viral showing her texting racist messages during a Washington Capitals hockey game. The company acted fast and removed her after an internal investigation.
Who Is Courtney Johnson?
Courtney Johnson was a top executive at the Alpine Group, leading its healthcare division. She worked as a lobbyist for major companies like AWS, Leidos, Lyft, and Amgen. But her career took a serious hit when her private conversation leaked online, sparking huge backlash.
How Alpine Group Responded
The Alpine Group quickly released a statement saying, âAfter a full investigation, Courtney Johnson has been fired with immediate effect. Her actions do not reflect our companyâs values and policies.â The firm, which helps businesses work with Congress and government agencies, also removed her profile from its website.
What Was in the Racist Texts?
In the viral video, Johnson was seen texting a man named Jimmy at the hockey game. Their conversation included racist comments about Black people, education, and affirmative action. They talked about why Black students from poor areas struggle in school, and Johnson suggested it was because they donât get to travel like rich white people.
Screenshots of the texts also showed Jimmy saying that white people had done the most for Black people, even mentioning the CIAâs treatment of Black communities. Johnson responded by saying that abortion doesnât target anyone and claimed Black people have more partners and higher pregnancy rates.
Things got even worse when Jimmy claimed Black students get into college more easily because of poverty. Johnson agreed, saying white students in the suburbs have the best grades but are often rejected because colleges want diversity.
The most disturbing part was when Jimmy allegedly wrote, âI want to kill all Blacksâ and âI want to commit genocide.â Johnson did not object to these extreme comments and continued the conversation.
The leaked messages caused outrage on social media. People criticized both Johnsonâs words and her failure to speak out against Jimmyâs extreme comments. Activists and organizations have called for accountability, saying this incident highlights racism in professional spaces.
So far, Johnson has not spoken about being fired. However, Alpine Groupâs quick decision shows they are taking a strong stance against racism. The scandal has also sparked wider discussions about discrimination in workplaces and what companies should do when employees behave inappropriately.
