WHO Team To Travel To China In January To explore Coronavirus Origin

The World Health Organization said Wednesday that a team of international experts would travel to China next month to help investigate the animal origins of Covid-19.

"I can confirm that this will take place in January," WHO spokesman Hedinn Halldorsson told AFP when asked about reports that the expert team, which includes epidemiologists and animal health specialists, would finally go to China next month.

On November 24, as per a news report, the Chinese Foreign Ministry had said China and the WHO are discussing a trip for experts to investigate the origins of COVID-19 and the details of the trip to China will be released in a timely manner.

In May, the annual meeting of the World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the Geneva-based WHO, passed a unanimous resolution to probe the origin of the virus. China also backed the resolution. many countries earlier called on the WHO to send the team and share more details about the mission.
