Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh had conducted a survey of madrassas in November 2022, in which 8441 madrassas were found illegal. Now the examinations are over, in such a situation the minority department of UP has started taking action. Most of the madrassa operators had cited zakat, that is charity given by Muslims, as their main source of income. Now investigation has revealed that 4000 madrassas of the state got foreign funding.

According to the report, preliminary investigation has revealed that apart from Nepal and Bangladesh, money is also being received from Gulf countries. Talking about bringing poor Muslims into the mainstream, Minority Affairs Minister Dharampal Singh said that action will be taken in this regard with the help of the police. He said that Muslim children will not be benefited by becoming Maulvi, they will have to read NCERT books. He said that with this the children of Muslims would also be able to become officers. It is worth mentioning that last year the survey of Madrasas was done from September 10 to November 15, which was extended till November 30. Since 2017, a ban has been imposed on the recognition of madrassas, the reason for this was said to be that those madrassas did not meet the government standards.

At present, a total of 15,613 madrassas are running in UP, many of which say that they are running madrassas for imparting Islamic education due to not getting recognition even after giving papers. Irregularities have been found in funding especially in the madrasas of the border districts. These districts include the names of Maharajganj, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur and Siddharthnagar. These madrassas do not have any clear documents regarding the source of income. Madrassas have been told that even if they teach in Urdu, their syllabus will remain the same as NCERT. Now legal noose will be tightened on such madrasas. Mainly 12 questions were asked in the survey. The Yogi government is constantly trying to connect madrassas with computers and there is no objection in giving recognition to those madrassas which are fulfilling the standards.
