The Chhattisgarh election results for 2023 witnessed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making a triumphant comeback to power, contradicting the anticipated victory for the Congress as predicted by exit polls.

Here are the probable factors contributing to the loss of assembly seats by the Congress:

Mahadev App Case:
The BJP surged past the halfway mark in the state assembly, leveraging Prime Minister Modi's campaign that highlighted allegations of corruption and a job scam against Chief Minister Baghel.

Accusations encircling Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel concerning the Mahadev betting app significantly impacted the Congress' performance in the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections.

Amidst the Mahadev betting app case, Asim Das, the alleged cash courier arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), claimed innocence, stating he was framed as part of a conspiracy and denied delivering cash to politicians.

On November 3, the anti-money laundering agency revealed, “Forensic analysis and a statement made by 'cash courier' Das claimed that Mahadev betting app promoters had paid about ₹508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel."

Das was apprehended in Raipur with ₹5.39 crore in cash, according to the ED. The agency further indicated that he was sent by the app's promoters from the UAE to deliver a substantial amount intended for election-related expenses of the governing Congress Party.

OBC Reservation:
During a rally in Mungeli, PM Modi highlighted Congress' historical failure in implementing reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), despite holding power from “panchayat to Parliament" for several years since Independence.

Modi emphasized, “The Congress did not grant constitutional status to the OBC Commission for decades nor did it enforce quota for this segment in medical colleges. However, I guaranteed to fulfill these demands and did so."

Corruption Allegations:
At a public gathering in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Modi accused the government led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of corruption.

Modi stated, “On the contrary, they indulged in corruption in recruitment (government jobs). They (Congress) converted the state’s PSC into the office of the Congress Committee. Congress recruited their children and relatives."

Earlier, on October 7, former Chief Minister Raman Singh urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a CBI investigation into purported irregularities and nepotism in the selection and evaluation processes of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC).
