It would have taken her around 13 hours to travel from Tokyo to New Jersey because her most recent performance was on August 26 at Tokyo's Ariake Arena and the VMAs were on August 28 at the Prudential Center in Newark. She was nominated for numerous awards, so it makes sense why she couldn't attend the ceremony.
